It is definitely fair to state that the majority of us are completely content to decorate our homes in the same style: magnolia walls, nothing too garish and certainly nothing that will make you stand out from the Jones next door. Excuse me while a pause for a long yawn here! There is absolutely no reason why you should not choose to decorate your property in an entirely different style, after all, it is you who will be spending all of your time there, not your friends and family. Therefore, if you fancy copying an Arabian style, go for it; or perhaps a New England A personal favourite!) or French country decor if you want it, you flipping well have it, my friends. (more...) A wonderful way to add texture, colour and style to any home is through pieces of art throughout the home. These are eye catching and add a touch of flare and intrigue to the home and living spaces as well. It is a great way to draw attention to a certain area or a special wall or feature within the home. Placing beautiful sculptures and art throughout the home is a great way to add simple decor to each room. However, keep in mind that there are also canvas prints that can be used too. These are beautiful and so unique as well. The prints are available in an array of colours, designs, patterns and images to use. There are plenty of options and choices that can easily be matched to any type of decor that is already in the home too. (more...) Home decorating offers the options of not just things to change, but the style as well, depending on the look you want to achieve. Flooring, wall coverings and window coverings can all be changed accordingly.
However, there is also the option of changing the shutters or blinds on the inside and outside of the home. Blindfolded and other similar companies offer an array of options when it comes to these changes. (more...) A home is an important part of any person's life. It is where we spend most of our time. Our home is the main place we spend so much time, or at least want to whenever we can. It is a place of sanctuary and serenity too. They come in all sizes and shapes of course and we try to make it as convenient as possible for ourselves. Every room of the house may have a different feel to it and a different look also. Then there are the rooms we spend more time in the others also. Maybe it is the living room or the kitchen when a party is taking place. The bedrooms may or may not get used as often or maybe they do depending on how the home is set up. It all depends on what we have going on and how we design our home and living space. However, the bathroom is always used daily. It is the one room that always has someone in it. (more...) If you are relocating your family to France, or indeed anywhere else in the world, you are bound to be currently embroiled in the business of packing up your life and your home. As you will know by now, this process is certainly easier said than done; unless there is some form of strategic structure to the job, the whole thing can easily descend into chaos. Because it is very important that your belongings reach your new home safely, it is crucial, to begin with, that you make contact with a good overseas freight company. There are many of these in business today and a simple browse through online resources will give you a good idea of which are the best among them. Once you have organised how your household items will be reaching France, you will need to turn your attention to the way in which you go about packing them into the boxes and trunks that will then be loaded into a larger container. This job requires a little foresight; you will want to make sure that you have immediate access to necessary items, and so you will want to ensure that these things are sent overseas ahead of you, via the quickest means possible. (more...) As you will know, if you are a homeowner, furnishing your living space is an extremely expensive business. Furniture costs are invariably steep, and, if you are planning to redo any part of your interior, you can expect to have to save considerably in preparation for the task. If you are a fan of DIY projects, however, you may be able to significantly curb your costs by taking on some of the design and construction jobs yourself. Even if you are an amateur, you should be able to put together a few items fairly easily. Unless you are experienced, however, it is not a good idea to launch into a tricky project unaided. Do not, for example, begin to build your own dining furniture unless you have first consulted with the experts. (more...) Though the internet has redefined shopping in our time, there are a number of items that simply cannot be purchased for discount prices online. In this article we are going to focus on furniture and bads. As you might expect, beds cannot be purchased affordably online because shipping costs are prohibitive. In fact, it can cost several hundred pounds to ship large pieces like beds or divans, which means that visiting the store in-person is often your best bet. I found single bed sale to be the best bet. But before you buy, you should consider which wooden bed is best for your home. Probably the two most popular woods for homeowners are mahogany and oak. Which is better? This is an extremely difficult question to answer. (more...) As you spend time outdoors, it’s important to invest in easy to use, low maintenance seating to focus on enjoying the sun as opposed to cleaning your furniture day in, day out. Bean bags offer a great example of how you can enjoy both comfort and versatility with your outdoor furniture, without having to worry about weather or wear and tear affecting your pieces. Invest in a few of these and you can instantly update a tired looking terrace, with zany colours and fabrics to show off your garden. Pick from muted hues to let your foliage do the talking, spruce up an old-fashioned decking with citric colours and inject a bit of sunshine and freshness to browns and greys. Choosing pleather or woven fabrics in darker tones will prove easy to clean and if you pick your fabrics carefully, such as cotton and linen, you can easily wash them with your regular loads to have them looking new in a few hours! Alternatively, thanks to their stuffing and depending on your choice of outer fabric, you could hose them down in under 10 minutes to freshen them up. Bean bags are also great as they are so light and portable - you can quickly move them from one end of your garden to the other, with minimum effort (perfect if you’re looking to soak up the rays!). Store them indoors when you’re done or leave them outside, you’ll see that they can easily withstand bad weather and frost, unlike wooden furniture, for example. With many styles out on the market, you can choose a classic version or go for versatility, with some pieces folding out to create your very own sun lounger and seat, all in one. (more...) If you have ever been lucky enough to stay in a luxurious five star hotel, you would probably have come away thinking that you would love your own home to be very similar. But the biggest factor that may be preventing you from achieving such a look, is the cost. If you fancy going for this luxurious look but only have a limited fund to do so, the best advice here might be for you to do a room at a time. With this in mind, there are a number of companies that allow you to have interest free credit on items of furniture and this is always a great idea - rather than putting it on your credit card and paying the generally extortionate rates of interest that are around at the moment. So, say you start with the bedroom. Do the redecorating and then purchase the luxurious items of furniture that you fancy. One excellent finishing touch here will be to go for a TV bed as these are the ultimate in 5 star luxury. (more...) It’s lunchtime, you’re about to tuck into your favourite sandwich (is it a BLT? Ploughmans?) It’s your chance to relax, for just 1 hour with no thoughts and then suddenly… the ultimate thought pops into your head. Who actually invented sandwiches ?
Now, you might be pondering this because you wish to give that gentleman a pat on the back, unfortunately, you’re a couple of decades too late. 12 decades to be exact. John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich and inventor of our beloved lunchtime fodder died in 1792, but just how did this genius of a man come up with the idea for the sandwich?
There is much discussion around where and why John Montagu originally came up with the idea for the sandwich but the most popular version of the story is that the fourth Earl of Sandwich was quite the keen gambler. During his card games, the Earl would order beef and other meats served between slices of bread as this was a convenient snack that allowed him to continue his all important card game. The Earl was a daring man, as, at this time, eating informally, with one’s figures, would not have been appropriate behavior. However, his favoured method of eating soon became popular amongst his card friends with them ordering ‘the same as sandwich’. And thus, the sandwich was born. (more...) Many people prefer plastic binds because they are inexpensive and economical; however, wooden blinds or hout jaloezieen as they are called in Dutch are preferred by many people . If you are planning on purchasing blinds for your home, you might be considering plastic blinds over wooden blinds but before making a decision, you should take the following points into consideration.
Wooden blinds are better in quality. Even the highest quality plastic blind cannot compare to the lowest quality wooden blind. It is very easy to obtain a natural stain to the surface of wooden blinds that make them work well with everything. Wooden blinds offer versatility. There are so many different options available when it comes to choosing the type of wood and the size of the slats.
For example, if you have a casual space you might want to consider bamboo blinds. They are perfect for casual spaces while French wooden blinds on the other hand are perfect for more formal spaces. Wooden blinds come in many shapes and designs that make them perfect for any type of window. (more...) Spring is just around the corner, and that means spring cleaning and decorating. The beginning of the summer months is the ideal time to think about redecorating your home and doing all those little jobs like mending the washer on the bathroom tap, replacing the door handles the children have pulled off, and replacing that chair leg that the dog chewed. In springtime enthusiasm is high, and with the right tools you can get those jobs done now so that you can then settle back in your deck chair and enjoy the summer free of guilt. Most of us have a box of odd screwdrivers and spanners lying about in the garage but why not do things properly this year and start out by equipping yourself with everything you might need before starting your list of jobs? You could do no better than have a look at the range of Silverline tools which are of excellent quality, reasonable price, and will cover just about any DIY need you might have. The basics are a good set of hand tools such as screwdrivers, hammer, spanners, and so on. These days there are many different types of screw patterns such as Philips, posidrive, etc. but it pays to buy a few different ones as there is nothing worse than starting on a job only to find you haven't got the right screwdriver! Similarly there are several types of pliers, some quite specialised. Usually, though, you can get away with one or two general purpose types. Whatever your needs you will find that Silverline can meet them, since their range is so extensive. Adjustable pliers or a molewrench are a man's best friend, (after his wife and dog), so you must equip yourself with one or two. (more...) Not many people will stop to think about the garage door that protects us from a lot of things like theft and bad weather. Once everything has been put in place for them they tend to relax. Very expensive property lies behind these doors but it does not get the recognition it deserves until someone has received a rude awakening. Before that happens, take a look at your garage door and ascertain that it is in the right shape. Be sure that all parts of the door are fully functional and are working smoothly.
The first part of a garage door to be looked at will be the panels. These are the parts that make up the door, and are connected to hinges to ease mobility when closing or opening. Should one part of the system get spoilt, one can easily replace with Garage Door Parts available at ukgaragedoorsspares.co.uk . Here there is a range of spares for all types of doors. Metallic doors are popular as they provide tighter security and also are made of durable material. Parts of metallic doors are easy to replace also.
The motor of the garage door is also a very crucial part of this item. It is supposed to help in pulling the door upwards or downwards and is run by electricity. The size and model of the door determines the power this motor has and when looking for spares, you have to be sure you are purchasing the right motor for the right weight. These doors are supposed to have battery back-ups in place just in case of power failure. (more...) The good thing about beautifully and custom-made window treatments, is that they enhance the look of a home. The challenge with these beautiful window treatments is that if your windows are not the standard size, then they are expensive as made to measure, however you can still get them at lower prices with good research.
If you are a homeowner with standard windows, then you have a wealth of choices, however, when your windows and other home features are non-standard, you have to contend with Custom Made Products, which are expensive, and you have to shop carefully to find the best ones for your windows. Ideally, the best solution for these kinds of windows is custom-made treatments, and they often come with additional décor often unavailable on the standard ones.
One group of homeowners who often have a hard time finding the correct size of treatments for their windows are people who own older homes, which many times come in odd window sizes, and they have to buy customized window treatments. Because of the apparently increased cost in buying these treatments, it is better to look for retailers selling at lower prices. Actually, for every expensive custom product in the market, there is a retailer willing to sell the same at a cheaper price. (more...)
